WASHINGTON - Several varieties of fruit sold at Costco, Trader Joe's and Sam's Club are being recalled because they may be contaminated with listeria.

Wawona Packing Company is voluntarily recalling certain lots of whole peaches (white and yellow), nectarines (white and yellow), plums and pluots. The potentially contaminated fruit was packed between June 1, 2014 through July 12,2014.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, Wawona has notified retailers of the specific lots being recalled. No illnesses have been reported.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
