HOUMA, La. (AP) - Authorities say all three survivors of a shooting rampage in south Louisiana remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition. Four other people, including the gunman, are dead. Brennan Matherne, a spokesman for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, says investigators in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are still working to learn the motive and piece together the sequence of events Thursday.
Authorities say 38-year-old Ben Freeman was embroiled in a custody fight with his ex-wife. He killed himself after attacking his current wife, his former in-laws and his onetime boss at a hospital that fired him. Freeman's wife, former mother-in-law and the hospital administrator are dead. Matherne says Parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux and his daughter Andrea are in critical condition after surgery early Thursday in New Orleans.
