YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A fire spokesman says firefighters are making progress against a wildfire that forced the evacuation of more than two dozen homes in a popular recreation area in the Columbia River Gorge.

Fire spokesman Stan Hinatsu says the Highway 141 Fire is 10 percent contained and didn't grow significantly Thursday. No structures have been lost and no one has been injured.

More accurate aerial mapping has reduced the size of the fire to nearly 2 square miles - or 1,200 acres. It's burning timber and grass in south-central Washington state, about 60 miles northeast of Portland, Ore.

Residents of 40 homes have been told to evacuate and residents of another 400 homes were warned they might have to leave. The fire started Wednesday north of the town of White Salmon, Wash.

Hinatsu says 450 firefighters tackled the blaze Thursday.
