NEW YORK (AP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says two threatening letters containing traces of the deadly poison ricin won't make him walk away from his gun control efforts.

Police say one letter was opened at a mail facility in Manhattan and the other was opened in Washington at an office used by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the nonprofit started by Bloomberg.

Chief New York Police spokesman Paul Browne said preliminary testing indicted the presence of ricin in both letters but that more testing would be done. He said the threats contained references to the debate on gun laws and an oily pinkish-orange substance.

Bloomberg says he doesn't feel threatened and will keep fighting to control guns. He told reporters that 12,000 people will get killed this year with guns and that 19,000 will commit suicide with guns.

Federal and NYPD officials are investigating.
