MUNDELEIN, Ill. (AP) - A 14-year-old girl is charged with murder in the stabbing death of an 11-year-old in the suburban Chicago home where the two lived.
Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim said a juvenile court judge approved the first-degree murder charge against the older girl during a juvenile court hearing. A state's attorney spokeswoman said the suspect is being held in a juvenile detention center.
Lake County's coroner, Dr. Thomas Rudd, says the 11-year-old was stabbed more than 30 times. He says most of the stab wounds were to her neck, chest and arms. She also had cuts to her face, and two stab wounds that pierced her left lung.
Authorities haven't said how the girls are related. But they lived in the same Mundelein home, about 30 miles northwest of Chicago.
