AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora Police officials say they are re-evaluating the scene at the apartment of James Holmes, the man arrested after dozens of people in a Colorado movie theater were gunned down.

Police say they "defeated" the first trip wire which they describe as a device designed to kill a person. They speculate it could have been meant for law enforcement or emergency personnel.

When describing the situation, Aurora Police Sgt. Cassidee Carlson said, "This is some serious stuff that our team is dealing with."

The entry team may soon attempt to detonate another triggering mechanism. Their primary goal is to enter the apartment in a way that is safe for everyone involved, including police, firefighters, and the public.

The suspect, James Holmes, lives in the third-floor apartment.
