COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina lawmakers have voted to formally rebuke Gov. Mark Sanford for secret visits to his Argentine mistress and misusing state planes.

One of the visits was during a taxpayer-funded trip that was supposed to be an economic development mission. The other was in June, when Sanford disappeared from the state and left no one in charge.

The rebuke unanimously approved Wednesday by the House Judiciary
Committee says the governor brought "ridicule, dishonor, disgrace and shame" to the state. The lawmakers agreed with a panel's decision from a week earlier that Sanford's missteps did not warrant impeachment.

The censure still requires majority votes in the House and Senate.

Sanford has been under scrutiny since he tearfully revealed his affair in June.
