Roadside bombs kill 4 US troops in Iraq - September 8, 2009

BAGHDAD (AP) - Four American soldiers have died from roadside bombs in what the military calls the deadliest day for U.S. forces in Iraq in weeks.

The military says the first roadside bomb struck a patrol in southern Baghdad, killing one soldier. Another bomb targeting a patrol in northern Iraq killed three soldiers a short time later.

The war saw its lowest monthly toll in August since the war began in March 2003. Seven U.S. troops died last month.

Today's attacks on the troops were part of a series of roadside bombings around the country. Other attacks along roads claimed eight Iraqi lives, including the head of an Iraqi anti-terrorism police unit.
