SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - A Yemeni official says that a Guantanamo detainee whose recent death has been blamed on suicide apparently died of asphyxiation.

Yemeni Embassy spokesman Mohammed Albasha tells The Associated Press U.S. officials have shared that preliminary conclusion with his government. U.S. officials publicly have said only that it's an apparent suicide.

The account raises questions about how prisoner Mohammad Ahmed Abdullah Saleh Al Hanashi could have strangled himself on June 1 inside the closely watched ward for inmates with mental problems.

The death was the fifth apparent suicide at the detention center that opened at the Navy base in southeast Cuba in 2002.
