HAWTHORNE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a minivan driver apparently was feeling sick before going the wrong way on a suburban New York parkway for nearly 2 miles. The wreck that followed killed eight people, including four children from the same Long Island family.
State police said Monday that the driver, Diane Schuller, apparently told her brother in a phone call about two hours earlier that she was feeling ill. He told her to pull over and said he'd go to get her. It's unclear where she was at the time or exactly what occurred after that.
Six people called 911 to say a driver was going the wrong way. Sunday's crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor also claimed the lives of three Yonkers men.
