NEW YORK (AP) - Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to sentence a prominent Manhattan lawyer to 145 years in prison after
he admitted to defrauding hedge funds of more than $400 million.
Prosecutors filed court papers Wednesday urging Judge Jed Rakoff
to sentence Marc Dreier to the lengthy term next Monday.
Dreier's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, urges the judge to sentence his client to 10 to 12 years in prison.
Dreier remains free on bail until his sentencing which is set for two weeks after Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years for a fraud that cost thousands of investors billions of dollars.
