COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a man linked by DNA to series of rapes in Los Angeles was shot by police in Ohio after a freeway chase that ended with a head-on crash.
The suspect was killed, but Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak said Wednesday it was unclear whether 35-year-old Abram Bynum died from his gunshot wounds or from injuries from Tuesday's collision into a tanker truck on Interstate 70.
Gorniak says an autopsy will be done in Columbus on Thursday.
Columbus police began watching Bynum after an arrest warrant was
issued in Los Angeles. Prosecutors on Monday filed 19 charges against Bynum in connection to five sexual assaults in northern Los
Angeles County between 2004 and 2007. Authorities say Bynum lived
in the area before moving to Ohio in 2007.
