WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says
it's too early to talk about supporting or opposing Sonia Sotomayor. But he says blocking her nomination to the Supreme Court with a filibuster is an option.

McConnell says Democrats established the precedent of using a
filibuster to stop judges from being confirmed.

A minority of senators can block a vote under Senate rules requiring a 60-vote majority to advance a proposal. Democrats are just one vote shy of controlling the 60 votes needed to defeat a filibuster attempt.

Democrats plan to open Sotomayor's Senate Judiciary Committee
hearings on July 13. Republicans say they need more time to review
her extensive record.

McConnell appeared Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation."
