2 Killed as Small Plane Crashes at SD Air Base

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say two people have been killed after a small plane crashed and burned on the Miramar Marine Corps
air base.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot and his passenger were on board the private Piper Commanche Saturday when it went down shortly before 11 a.m.

The crash caused a small fire in a hilly area but it was quickly contained.

The plane was heading from Whiteman Airport in the San Fernando Valley community of Pacoima to Brown Field in San Diego.

The victims' identities were being withheld pending notification of their relatives.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the cause of the crash.
