MIAMI (AP) - Four people are dead and 10 others are in custody after a boat with more than a dozen people aboard capsized overnight in the waters off South Florida.
The Coast Guard says the bodies of four women were recovered from the water and nine Haitian and Jamaican nationals were found clinging to the hull of the boat.
A 10th person was taken by boat to Miami Beach, where he was treated at a hospital and released.
The Coast Guard says all 10 survivors have been taken into custody as authorities investigate whether they were part of a human smuggling operation.
Migrants from Haiti, Cuba and other Caribbean countries routinely attempt to enter the U.S. illegally by reaching Florida's coast in overloaded or unseaworthy vessels.
