PITTSBURGH (AP) - A woman whose 2-year-old twins were separated at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh says it was a shock to learn she was pregnant.
Twins Dagian (DAY'-zhee-uhn) and Danielle Lee were joined from the breastbone to the pelvis. They were separated in a marathon surgery Dec. 13 and doctors say they're doing well. Each has only one leg and doctors say prosthetics are a possibility.
The mother, Catherine Nickson, says she had been told after her first child that she was unable have any more children. She was complaining of pain when she went to a doctor and was told she was pregnant with twins. She says she thought the doctor was joking.
