WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. says China agrees that North Korea should face "further consequences" under a recently approved U.N. Security Council resolution if it conducts a nuclear test.

Secretary of State John Kerry discussed North Korea's "continued provocative rhetoric" in a phone call Tuesday with China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Tuesday that "conversations were remarkably similar" on the importance of taking further action under the authority of last month's U.N. resolution if North Korea again violates its international obligations.

China, which is North Korea's sole major ally, supported the resolution that condemned a long-range rocket launch conducted by Pyongyang in defiance of a U.N. ban. To protest the toughened sanctions, Pyongyang then announced it that it will conduct a nuclear test.
