The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the earthquake measured magnitude 6.0 and struck late Friday about 42 kilometers (26 miles) southeast of Uyugan township in the northernmost province of Batanes. It said it was centered at a depth of 183 kilometers (114 miles).

The institute recorded at least one aftershock.
