SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A South Korean military official says a South Korean soldier has killed five comrades and wounded another five at the border with North Korea. A Defense Ministry official says the army sergeant opened fire with a rifle at an outpost east of Seoul.
The official wouldn't confirm media reports that the shooter is still at large. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department rules.
Thousands of soldiers from the rival Koreas square off along the world's most heavily armed border.
There is no indication that North Korea was involved. But tensions have been high recently, with North Korea staging a series of missile and artillery drills and threatening South Korea's leader.
