A Chinese state news agency says several people have been killed in an attack on police station in Xinjiang in the far west of the country.
The official Xinhua News Agency said "a number of thugs" were shot dead in the attack Monday on a police station in Hotan.
It did not immediately give any further details in the one-sentence report.
Xinjiang remains tense after deadly clashes erupted between predominantly Muslim Uighurs and Han Chinese migrants in 2009.
Uighurs attacked Hans, overturning buses and torching shops in the
regional capital of Urumqi in a riot the government says killed 197 people.
