MEXICO CITY (AP) - The lawyer for a jailed drug kingpin says he believes his client convicted in the killing of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena will go free in coming weeks.
Mexican drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero walked free Friday after a federal court overturned his 40-year sentence on procedural grounds.
Jose Luis Guizar is the attorney for jailed former cartel head Enrique Fonseca Carrillo. He says he expects his client to be released on the same grounds within 15 days and all held in the case to eventually go free.
The U.S. Department of Justice said it found the court's decision "deeply troubling" and Mexico's attorney general said a serious legal mistake had been committed.
The Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents in the United States blamed corruption for Caro Quintero's release.
