AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - A Jordanian militant leader linked to al-Qaida has warned that his extremist group will launch "deadly attacks" in neighboring Syria to topple President Bashar Assad.

Mohammad al-Shalabi, better known as Abu Sayyaf, says the attacks are in response to "crimes" committed by Assad's ruling Alawite minority against the majority Sunni Muslims in Syria.

Addressing a protest outside the Jordanian prime minister's office in the capital Amman on Sunday, he warned Assad that "our fighters are coming to get you."
