KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Afghanistan's deputy interior minister says three of the gunmen in a luxury hotel in the capital have been killed and another is trapped.
Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi tells The Associated Press that all the guests in the hotel, which is frequented by foreigners, are safe.
The standoff began Thursday night. A senior intelligence official says the gunmen sneaked pistols into the heavily guarded hotel by hiding them in their socks. That official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Taliban militants have threatened to disrupt upcoming elections, and many observers are staying at the hotel.
