MUMBAI, India (AP) - Police say it will be difficult to search three floors of a collapsed building in a suburb of India's financial capital of Mumbai, because the three floors are sandwiched together.

The building, being constructed illegally on forest land, collapsed into a mound of steel and concrete, killing at least 47 people and injuring 70 others.

Rescue workers with sledgehammers, gasoline-powered saws and hydraulic jacks have been struggling to break through the tower of rubble from the eight-story building in a search for possible survivors.

At the time of the collapse, between 100 and 150 people were in the building. An official says many of them were residents or construction workers who were living at the site as they worked on it.

By this afternoon, more than 20 people were still missing.
