SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) - Authorities in Bulgaria say a 56-year-old homeless man has died of exposure to the cold, bringing to three the total cold-related deaths this season.
Emergency official Anelia Georgieva said the man was found unresponsive on Friday morning on a street in the southwestern town of Dupnitsa. The bodies of two other people - a 70-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man - were recovered Thursday from snowdrifts in northern Bulgaria.
A sudden cold snap with temperatures plunging to minus 22 Celsius (minus 8 Fahrenheit) and heavy snow have gripped large parts of Bulgaria.
In the past week, blizzards have blocked roads, stranded villages, and disrupted power supplies across the Balkan states, though by Friday temperatures were rising in some areas.
