KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The battle between insurgents in Afghanistan and Afghan and foreign security forces has once again taken civilian lives.
Authorities say a roadside bomb tore through a minibus that was carrying people to a wedding celebration in northern Afghanistan today. At least 19 people were killed and 16 were wounded.
A police official says a police patrol had passed through the area during the night.
Earlier this month, the U.N. Security Council expressed concern over the high number of civilian casualties in the war, especially among women and children. The Taliban and other militants are responsible for the overwhelming majority of civilian deaths in Afghanistan.
