Two Afghanistan Men Sentenced to Death

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Afghan court officials say two men who
stormed a Jalalabad bank in February and killed at least 38 people
at point blank range are to be hanged.

Chief court administrator Abdul Malik Kamawi said Monday that
the convicts, Matiullah and Zar Ajam, were sentenced to death by
Afghanistan's highest court for the massacre at a Kabul Bank branch
in Jalalabad, the capital of the eastern province of Nangahar.

A bank video recording of the attack shows the men calmly
herding cowering bank customers toward them and then shooting them to death with AK-47 assault rifles.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai would have to sign the death
warrant to allow the sentence to be carried out.
