KADUNA, Nigeria (AP) - At least seven people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a church in northern Nigeria.

Authorities say more than 100 others were wounded when a suicide bomber rammed an SUV loaded with explosives into a Catholic church in Kaduna during Sunday Mass.

As rescuers tried to reach the wounded, angry youths armed with machetes and clubs beat two Muslims to death as they passed by the smoldering ruins of the church. Police and soldiers ordered everyone to go home, hoping to prevent additional reprisal attacks.

The car bombing is the latest in a series of high-casualty attacks targeting churches in a region between Nigeria's largely Christian south and its predominantly Muslim north.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes as the Muslims in the nation are celebrating the end of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

In recent days, rumors have circulated that the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram might try to launch an attack during the holiday. The group is blamed for hundreds of killings this year alone.
