Polanski Appeals Judge's Refusal to Toss Sex Case

Lawyers for Roman Polanski have asked an appeals court to overturn a Los Angeles judge's refusal to throw out a decades-old sex case against the fugitive director.

Attorney Chad Hummel told the California Second District Court
of Appeal on Tuesday that the judge refused to consider Polanski's
case because the director had fled the country 31 years ago and has
been living in France since then.

Hummel urged the court to dismiss the case or assign it to another court.

Polanski pleaded guilty in 1977 to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and then fled. He recently sought dismissal on grounds of misconduct by the now-deceased judge who had arranged a plea bargain and then reneged on it.
