ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - The governor of a western Turkish province
says eight patients receiving intensive care died of smoke
inhalation and other causes after a fire struck a hospital.
Gov. Sahabettin Harputlu of Bursa province says all eight
patients had been treated at the intensive care unit of the Sevket
Yilmaz hospital. He says rescue workers quickly evacuated 44
patients following the fire early Tuesday, but half of the 16
intensive care unit patients died.
He says a short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire, which was fully extinguished.
