NATO Service Member Killed in Bomb Blast

ABUL (AP) - A NATO service member was killed by a roadside bomb
in southern Afghanistan, while two days of clashes killed 33
militants, international forces said Friday.

The bombing happened Thursday in Helmand province, NATO forces
said in a statement that did not give further details on the
incident or the service member's nationality. The international
force typically waits for national authorities to announce
casualties.

Separately Thursday, U.S. forces said Afghan army and coalition
troops killed 30 militants in a firefight in Helmand's Gereshk
district. The troops were patrolling in a militant-heavy area when
they started receiving gunfire and returned fire, the U.S. said in
a statement.

One Afghan soldier was injured during the operation, the
statement said.

On Friday, Afghan and coalition forces killed three militants in
eastern Logar province when fighting broke out during a raid
targeting a bomb-making cell, a separate U.S. statement said.

One militant was captured in the incident in Logar's Baraki
Barak district, the U.S. said.
