A new study in the journals of neuroscience shows that watching actors smoke in movies triggers the same brain activity involved in planning to actually smoke a cigarette.
Researchers studied the movie Matchstick Men, which has several smoking scenes.
Both smokers and non-smokers took part in the study. Scientists found a connection to the brains reward system. They say the next step is to follow up on participants to see whether they actually lit up afterwords.
