UN: World Failing to Meet HIV/AIDS Goals

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says
the world is falling behind in its pledge to sharply reduce
HIV/AIDS infections and improve treatment.

The U.N. chief says in a report released on Monday that
"critical challenges remain" if the world is to make good on
promises made at a U.N.-sponsored meeting on HIV/AIDS in June 2011.

Funding for anti-HIV/AIDS projects has fallen, the report says,
and a U.N. goal for 2015 to halt and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
may not be met.

Ban "calls on the international community to now stand up to
meet the commitments it has made," the report says.
