Sandoval: Health Reform Law "Unworkable"

Statement from Governor Sandoval:

“I opposed Obamacare from its inception.  However, when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld it, every state and every American was forced to abide by it. As a state, Nevada’s only choice was whether to let the federal government control the process or manage the process ourselves.  We rightly opted for the latter.  Now, despite our best efforts to comply with this ill-conceived law, the failure at the federal level has made this effort in Nevada significantly more difficult or even impossible.

“Without a doubt, the President’s actions this week are a direct acknowledgement that the law is unworkable. What’s more, the announcement yesterday does not fix any problems and only adds more confusion. I strongly urge the President and Congress to reconsider this law.”

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval says President Obama's about face to allow people to keep their old health insurance policies has made federal health reform unworkable.

The Republican Nevada governor who grudgingly accepted the law's mandates says Obama's announcement doesn't fix any problems and only adds more confusion.

In a statement, Sandoval on Friday urged the president and Congress to reconsider the law.

Nearly 25,000 Nevadans received notices from their insurance companies saying their policies would be canceled as of Jan. 1 because they don't meet requirements of the federal law. After mounting political pressure, the president Thursday said those people would be allowed to keep their existing coverage for one more year.

But Nevada's insurance commissioner says that may be easier said than done.
