Nevada Ranks Low in Well-Being of Children

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada ranks 48th in the nation when it comes to the overall well-being of children.

That's according to the 2012 Kids Count Data Book released Wednesday by the Annie C. Casey Foundation.

The report analyzes health, education, community and economic factors as they pertain to the well-being of children.

It ranked Nevada 49th on economic well-being, 46th on health, 50th on education and 41st on family and community.

But the report also said Nevada children saw gains in half of the 16 indicators over the past few years. For example, it says Nevada's child and teen death rate fell 22 percent in the past few years. Additionally, the teen birth rate fell 6 percent and the percent of children without health insurance fell 15 percent.
