LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon is
leaving Sin City for the City of Angels.
The decision to move the show to Los Angeles comes a year after
the telethon's split with longtime host Jerry Lewis.
An official at Las Vegas' South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, where
the event was held last year without Lewis, said Friday that the
decision comes as no surprise. Tom Mikovits says the resort is
"proud to have hosted the Labor Day Telethon for the last six
years."
A spokeswoman for Lewis said the entertainer was traveling, and
probably wouldn't comment about the MDA move.
Lewis' absence last year ended a 45-year run in which officials
credit him with raising $1.66 billion for research and aid for
those living with of the degenerative inherited muscular disease.
