JTNN to Hold Prescription Drug Round-Up

Reno, Nev. - Join Together Northern Nevada is working with the DEA and local law enforcement agencies to collect unused prescription medication.

JTNN officials say letting the drugs fall into the wrong hands could be dangerous. In Washoe County alone in the last year, JTNN reports there have been at least four toddler deaths caused by prescription medications that were left out.

And that's just part of the problem. Teens may seek out prescription drugs in the medicine cabinets of friends and family, thinking they are less dangerous than street drugs.

Some teens who start out using prescription drugs become addicted to pain killers, and could potentially turn to heroine, a cheaper substitute, down the road.

In order to prevent that from happening, JTNN representatives want to dispose of them safely.

You can drop them off Saturday, October 29th, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the following locations in Northern Nevada:

Sparks:
Hungry Valley Community Center - 9055 Eagle Canyon Drive
SaveMart - 565 East Prater Way
SaveMart - 9750 Pyramid Highway

Reno:
Raleys - 18144 Wedge Parkway Scolari's - 8165 S. Virginia St. (the pink Scolari's)
Walmart - 2425 E. 2nd Street (across from Grand Sierra Resort)
