506 physicians were surveyed. They all work exclusively in hospitals. Of those, 40 percent reported having too many patients to take care of safely each month.

36 percent of the physicians surveyed indicated that overload of patients happens once a week.

One quarter of the doctors reported their workload prevents them from discussing treatment with patients and their families fully.

More than 20 percent of the hospital doctors said they ordered unneccessary procedures for patients, because there wasn't enough time to evaluate them properly.

Five percent of the doctors reported patient overload contributed to a patient's death.
