Group Gets $10K for Women's Heart Health

The number 2 killer of women in Nevada is heart disease, and while we hear that statistic all the time, we rarely hear about people doing something about it. Now someone is.

Reno-based Access for Community and Cultural Education Programs and Training (ACCEPT) was one of only 10 groups nation wide to get a big grant to help women cope with and avoid this killer.

Executive Directior Gwen Taylor is using the $10 from the Federal Office of Women's Health to hold a series of meetings for women and especially help minority women who are at higher risk.

They are like support groups where women can work together to keep their hearts healthy. The first meeting is March 16 at Greater Light Christian Church, 2400 West 7th street. The second meeting is also at 7 pm at New Believers Christian Fellowship, 680 Montello Street, on March 29th. Another event will be at the State of Nevada health Division during Public Health Week between April 2-8th at 4150 technology Way in Carson City.

There will be many more with a total of at least 10 events. More information is available from the ACCEPT offices which can be reached at 775-786-5886.
