RENO, NV - A lot of people in Nevada are Googling the flu. Compared to other states, more Nevadans want to know about the flu, according to Google trends.
However, health officials said there's not a spike in lab-confirmed flu cases here yet.
"We've seen a few, not a lot," Dr. Kevin Windisch said. Windisch said when the weather is cold, people are close together indoors, making flu transmission easier. Lately, Reno has seen record high temperatures.
Dr. Randall Todd, an epidemiologist for Washoe County, said lab information shows Nevada is not seeing more flu compared to other states. But he said not everyone with the flu is lab-tested. He also said that Google's information may be newer.
"We're definitely interested in watching whether this is going to predict an up-tick in our flu numbers," Todd said.
Google found more people in Southern Nevada were looking up the flu than other parts of the state.
