Yellow Voluntary Burn Ban in Effect Into Sunday

This photo was taken on Jan. 18th, 2013 from TMCC. It shows the hazy smog trapped in the Truckee Meadows by the inversion layer.

Saturday, January 19:

Current & Maximum AQI 87 Moderate (PM2.5)

This evening’s wood burning color code is YELLOW. Calm winds and cold overnight temperatures trap pollution in the Truckee Meadows. Hazy skies and moderate air quality conditions are forecasted to continue through the holiday weekend.

Residents of the Truckee Meadows are strongly encouraged to voluntarily reduce using their fireplaces, wood stoves, and pellet stoves until conditions improve. Reducing burning now can help prevent air pollution from reaching unhealthy levels.

If you must use your fireplace, woodstove, or pellet stove, then remember to:

Use only dry, seasoned wood;
Build small, hot fires instead of large smoldering ones;
Give your fire a generous air supply; and
Never burn trash including newspapers and magazines.

This message will be updated tomorrow by 5:00 P.M. or earlier if major changes occur.

Tomorrow’s Forecast
Sunday, January 20: Moderate (PM2.5)

Yesterday’s Maximum
Friday, January 18: AQI 82 Moderate (PM2.5)
