Advocates Protest Horse Slaughter

About 60 wild horse advocates protested in front of the state legislative building in Carson City on Friday. The advocates say they want to bring light to what they say is the state department of agriculture advocacy of horse slaughter. Specifically the slaughter of Virginia Range Horses. Their claims are based upon the minutes of an agriculture board meeting 2 years ago.

An overflow shelter for the homeless to sleep in is open amid frigid temperatures in the Truckee Meadows. The shelter is a heated warehouse-type building near Mill Street and Edison Way can accommodate one hundred men, according to Volunteers of America.

RGJ Editor Martinez Dies From Stroke at 59

Michael Martinez, an editor and writer at the Reno Gazette-Journal for 12 years who specialized in community issues and was a jazz expert, died Wednesday from a stroke. He was 59.
