CARSON CITY, Nev -- A wrong-way driver crashed on Interstate 580 in Carson City, killing himself and shutting down the freeway.

A Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) dispatcher tells KOLO 8 News Now the call came in just after 8:30am and that southbound traffic was diverted at Arrowhead for a few hours during the investigation.

Trooper Dan Lopez is on scene investigating the crash. He says a green Infinity was going northbound in the southbound lanes. It hit a concrete bridge abutment and the driver, a 78-year old man, was killed. He was the only person in the car.

Trooper Lopez says the freeway could re-open by about 10:45am.
