Wife of Fallen Officer From 1997 Talks About Moving On

RENO, NV - It will take a while for the Las Vegas community to heal. Officers Beck and Soldo dedicated their lives to protecting the community, and died senselessly.

Each officer who dies in the line of duty has a different story, but their families all go through the same turmoil.

"A line of duty death to me... Is a very sad sad situation. These officers put their lives on the line 24 hours a day in every city, town and community not only here in Nevada... But everywhere," said Jeanne Minnie.

Whenever an officer dies in the line of duty, she relives the day she lost her husband 17 years ago.

"It all boils down to the same thing. You've lost someone. you've lost that person in your family, you've lost the head of the household. Your children's father," said Minnie.

It was May 1997. Frank Minnie was a motorcycle deputy. He was tailing a vehicle out by Boomtown and for an unknown reason, he lost control of his bike and crashed. he died 2 days later.

"When it is a tragic death and you're fairly young and you have been through this, it can be very overwhelming," said Minnie.

Hardest hit were her kids. They, like children of the Vegas officers, no longer had a dad. She says they all got thought it because of the help of the law enforcement community.

"They were there for anything and everything... And I knew it was just as hard on them," said Minnie.

In the following years, Jeanne became active in the that same support group. She says she'll do whatever she can to help families of officers killed in the line of duty.

She now sits on the board of the James D. Hoff Peace Officers Memorial. Her husband's name is one of the many on this wall who is gone but not forgotten.

Soldo and Beck's names will be added to the wall next May during peace officers memorial month.
