ELY, Nev. (AP) - White Pine County school district officials say they support statewide implementation of all-day kindergarten.
The county currently offers all-day kindergarten at McGill Elementary School and half-day kindergarten at David E. Norman Elementary in Ely.
School Superintendent Bob Dolezal says support among parents seems to have grown over the past 10 years.
Dolezal told the Ely Times that when the idea first was proposed, many parents didn't like the idea of such young kids being in school for so long. But he says it has not proven to be a hardship and seems to give the students a stronger academic foundation.
District finance director Paul Johnson says the only problem is it likely would require hiring two more teachers. He says many school districts would be hard pressed to afford that.
