RENO, NV - Washoe District Court Judge Robert Perry died Tuesday at the age of 68.
According to the biography on the county's web site, he was born in 1943 in Salem, Oregon, and got his law degree from the University of Kansas. He is also a Marine Corps veteran.
He moved to Reno in 1973, becoming a criminal investigator for the Washoe County D.A.'s office, working his way up to prosecutor, a position he held under several district attorneys. He then worked in private practice.
He was selected by the late Governor Kenny Guinn to serve in District Court's Department 9 in 2005, a position he held until he died. Of the major cases over which he presided, possibly the most well-known is that of James Biela, convicted of killing Brianna Denison in Reno.
Perry died after a long illness, with family by his side. There's no word yet about funeral services.
