RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County's library director says two small libraries will be closed if the department is forced to take more budget cuts July 1.

Library Director Arnie Maurins says libraries in Verdi and at Duncan/Traner schools could close if the library system and other county departments are forced to cut costs by 4.5 percent.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the library at Duncan/Traner is now open only five hours a week. The Verdi library is open four hours on Wednesdays and six hours on Saturdays.

The two branches were recommended for closure by a citizens' task force if more cuts are necessary.

County libraries and county parks have seen their budgets cut by about 40 percent in the last three years.
