RENO, NV - Many of us honored our veterans today, by watching a parade, holding signs, waving flags, thanking them for their service.

Some vets or their families, those traveling long distances to receive extended care at the V-A hospital, need something else more basic. They need a place to stay, a home-like setting to relax and gather their strength while dealing with health issues.

That's the reason behind the Veterans Guest House across the street from the hospital.

It fills a critical need, but the need has outgrown this small house on Locust Street. In fact, it's packed most of the time.

The solution was right next door, a former duplex, now converted to a guest house annex, thanks to a HUD grant obtained through the city and a big contribution from a private donor.

The work is now complete and Veterans Day was the ideal time to officially dedicate it.

It will open its doors to as many as 8 more guests early next month.
