Carson City, NV - Conrad Burt recalls what his Acura Integra looked like Saturday morning, when he woke up.
"This whole area was shattered out and the windshield was fractured," he says, showing off the front of his car. "There was just kind of glass down in the car and things like that."
He says it looked like someone had taken a baseball bat to his car that he had parked in the driveway. When Burt called the Carson City Sheriff's Office to report the vandalism, he learned he wasn't the only victim.
"They had already had three calls before us," he says. When he drove down the street later on, he noticed vandals had hit other property on his street.
"We were shocked by the number of reports of vandalism throughout town," says Ken Furlong, Carson City Sheriff. He says no neighborhood was safe because the vandalism was so widespread. The Sheriff's Office got between 30 to 50 phone calls from people that morning, reporting damaged property.
"Upwards of 17 vehicles were severely damaged. In town. Mailboxes were run over or destroyed. Houses were egged. It was a real rampage," says Sheriff Furlong.
Doug George says his sense of security was shattered when he noticed his car's window was. It had been parked in his driveway that Friday night. He remembers when his neighbor alerted him about what had happened Saturday morning.
"My neighbor actually knocked on my door and asked if I had seen what happened to my car and I didn't," says George. "I went over and looked and the rear window was smashed out. It's very frustrating. You know, it's something that happens in front of your house - especially in your neighborhood. You hope to have a nice safe neighborhood, especially with a lot of kids around. It's disturbing."
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is asking the public for help. He says if anyone knows anything, please contact the Sheriff's Office.
