RENO, Nev. (AP) - A University of Nevada, Reno student is the recipient of the 2013 Kenny c. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship.
Danielle Swanson was honored Wednesday during a ceremony at UNR.
Swanson is a senior completing a dual major in math and secondary education, with an English as a second language endorsement. She is scheduled to graduate next year.
The scholarship created by the 2011 Legislature provides recipients up to $4,500 to college seniors majoring in education.
It is named in honor of the late Gov. Kenny Guinn, who was a champion of education and founder of Nevada's Millennium Scholarship program.
Guinn died in July 2010. The Memorial Scholarship is funded from donations received by the state treasurer's office following his death. To date more than $200,000 has been donated.
